Public Hearing Set for 2016-17 AAPS Budget; Mitchell Expansion Continues

The board is holding an executive session at 5:30 PM, citing attorney/client privilege.

During the regular meeting, beginning at 7:00 PM, the trustees will first hold a moment of silence for Pittsfield Elementary teacher Cathleen Babcock, who recently passed away. There will be special recognition of Pioneer bands at Carnegie Hall and the E3 Award for the Hikone Exchange Program.

The trustees will hear an update to the 2016/17 budget. Since the last board meeting, the Washtenaw County special education millage passed, which will add an additional $9M to the budget.

First briefings will be on the 2016-17 annual software renewals, Project Lead the Way purchases, food service management contracts, the WISD budget, and the 2016 Rec & Ed sports and summer camp contracts.

Second briefings will be on Mitchell Elementary Expansion Bid Pack 4, which comprises site work, casework, metal doors and hardware purchases, resilient flooring, painting, and landscaping. The 2016 TRIG purchases will also come up for second briefing.

Voting will be on the bid pack, the TRIG purchases, and approval of a public hearing on the 2016-17 budget.

AAPS Board Begins Budget Talks; Graduation Rates Up

Tonight’s study session, beginning at 5:30 PM, focuses on the FY 2016-17 AAPS budget. Budget talks begin on the heels of yesterday’s  approval of education budgets in the state’s House of Representatives.

Study sessions allow the trustees to explore a topic more in depth than is usually allowed for at a regular meeting. After the study session, the trustees will move into a regular meeting, scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM. They will hear a report on graduation data and will be presented with two first briefings: bid pack 4 for the Mitchell expansion and TRIG purchases. Superintendent Jeanice Swift will report out on her recent trip to China.

AAPS Board Approves Mitchell Bids

Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education regular meeting (April 13, 2016): Forsythe Middle School, 1655 Newport Rd

The board is holding an executive session at 5:30 PM, citing attorney/client privilege.

During the regular meeting, beginning at 7:00 PM, the trustees will hear first briefings on three bid packs for the Mitchell Elementary expansion project.

Bid Pack 1 for the concrete flatwork and footing/foundations is expected to cost $91,006. Bid Pack 2, which includes glass/glazing, metal siding/lockers, and roofing, will cost $434,740. The mechanical and electrical work, which is included in Bid Pack 3, will cost $550,700.

The trustees will also hear the monthly budget monitoring report.
