Clean Audit for AAPS

Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education regular meeting (November 15, 2017): Forsythe Middle School, 1655 Newport Rd

The Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) Board of Education (BOE) trustees will vote themselves into executive session at 5:00 PM this evening, citing attorney/client privilege. Executive sessions are closed to the public. The regular meeting begins at 7:00 PM.

Two information items will be presented: the October Budget Monitoring Report and the 2016-17 Annual Audit.

No first briefings are scheduled.

Second briefings include two purchase recommendations. The Physical Properties Department is recommending the district purchase bagged ice melter for a total of $24,438.75 per year for three years. Funding will be provided from the General Fund.  The Purchasing Department is recommending a purchase of 2,857 instruments from seven different vendors for a total cost of $1,998,226. The instruments will be used district wide. Funding will be provided from the 2015 Bond Fund.

Voting tonight will be on the musical instruments and the bagged ice melter purchases.

Trustees Talk Strategic Plan Process

Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education regular meeting (November 8, 2017): Forsythe Middle School, 1655 Newport Rd

The evening begins at 5:30 PM with a reception for Superintendent Jeanice Swift. Swift was recently named the Michigan Superintendent of the Year by the Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA). The public is invited to the reception.

The regular board meeting of the Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) Board of Education (BOE) begins at 7:00 PM.

MASA Executive Director Christopher Wigent will be on hand to recognize Swift as the 2018 Michigan Superintendent of the Year.

An Immunization Update and the 2018 Strategic Plan Process will be presented as information items.

First briefings include recommendations to purchase Bagged Ice Melter and Musical Instruments.

There are no second briefing items, which means the only items on the consent agenda will be approval of the previous meeting minutes and donations.

Board action will be taken on an Administrative Contract Approval.

SAT Scores Cause Concern; Trustees Pass Resolutions Opposing Legislation

Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education regular meeting (October 25, 2017): Allen Elementary School, 2560 Towner Blvd.

The evening begins with the Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) Board of Education (BOE) trustees celebrating the Allen Elementary Building Re-Dedication at 5:30 PM. After a broken water main flooded the school in August 2016, the building has been renovated and refurbished. The public is invited to the dedication ceremony.

The regular board meeting begins at 7:00 PM.

The Annual SAT Achievement Report will be presented as an information item.

One generic first briefing item is listed on the agenda.

Second briefings include the 3rd Grade Reading Materials Purchase Recommendation and the Bulk Salt Purchase Recommendation. The total for the bulk salt purchase will be approximately $50,751 and will be funded through the General Fund. Funding for the $184,6894 cost of the reading materials will be provided from the 31A At-Risk Grant Fund and the General Fund.

Voting will be on the 3rd Grade Reading Materials Purchase and the Bulk Salt Purchase.

Board action will be taken on the approval of a Recreation Advisory Commission Recommendation for Membership and the approval of the Superintendent Evaluation Timeline. The trustees approved the superintendent evaluation tool at the last meeting. Tonight they will approve the timeline.

Items from the Board include two resolutions to review. The first is to review a Resolution to Oppose the Approval of Michigan SB 574 (Enhanced Millage Funding). The second is to review a Resolution to Oppose Legislation to allow Guns in Schools, including Michigan SB 584, SB 586, HB 4876.
